The Swedish d-beat peddlers Warvictims pretty much took the scene by storm when they came out of nowhere in 06/07. Suddenly they had almost a dozen records out, and now theyve done a split with one of the most prominent defenders of dis - Besthven. Take a look at the logos of the two bands. Can you guess where they both draw inspiration from?
And fuck yeah, Warvictims proves once again that they are one of the greatest crust bands around today. Their mid-tempo d-beat is just so freaking powerful. The heavy, hard-hitting riffing slices the air like the greatest, and with Challes brutal growls topping it off theres little left to do except surrender. Although they have dual vocals for this record, but since both of em growl its still fairly similar to their earlier material. Fisen is still backing up with some gnarled screams, so its just like we love it. If you take the dark sound of Svart Parad, add the moody brutality of Warcollapse and the relentless old school d-beat sound of Disclose, Meanwhile and whatnot, and you have a notion of Warvictims sound. But mere comparisons are really not worth your time, just trust me and buy everything you can find with these lads.
Now what to say about Besthven that hasnt been said before Theyve been around for almost 20 years now and have remained true to their d-beat worship, but sound and style-wise they can change in between releases. And for this split their Brazilian heritage shines through like a supernova. The opening track Mensageiros da morte is such a raw and relentless hardcorepunk tune in the vein of Armagedom and Forca Macabra. However A world into darkness reveals the love for early British and Swedish d-beat, while still keeping true to the Brazil sound. The vocals are not as harsh as on some of Besthvens other material, but it still fits like a glove. And quite frankly this is one of their better splits.
