Penalty Time / Wardance LP
Genre: Hardcorepunk vs. Crustcore Origin: Sweden vs. Germany Released: 2007 Website: Penalty Time, Wardance Label: Assel Records Uploaded: 09.04.08 Well I’ll be damned, Penalty Time sure have toughened up. From a quite melodic punk rock band to a rough hardcorepunk band, and I’m surely liking this a whole lot better. It’s sort of lo-fi 80ies British hardcore seasoned with a dash of American punk. It’s simple, song-along friendly and damn effective. It’s easy to get drawn into the energy and shout along in the choruses. Music-wise it’s slick, and Anders’ harsh vocals deliver pissed off, frustrated lyrics. This has loads of energy and I imagine they would be a killer act to see live. I’m definitely digging it. I’ve never heard of Wardance before, and I didn’t really know what to expect. But I would never have imagined this crustcore to flow out of my speakers. It was a long time ago since I heard anything like this, and it sure takes me back to the good ol’ days. Melodic crust with dual male/female vocals, and it reminds me a whole lot of Diaspora, maybe even with a hint of Chupacabra. I can’t really say why, but I’m just really liking this. Melodic, yet aggressive ‘cause of the pissed vocals. It’s not the best stuff I’ve ever heard, but it’s damn charming. Tracklist: Penalty Time: 01. Shop till you drop 02. Self destruct 03.
