I had some major problems listening to this. I have no idea what speed to play it on. At first I let it roll on 33 RPM, and it sounded pretty ok. But when I sat down and looked at/read the insert I saw that it was a female singer and said to myself there is no way a woman can sing with such a deep voice, it must be at the wrong speed. So I changed it to 45 RPM, and it sounded like smurfs on speed, totally fucked up. I went through my tape collection, cause I was pretty sure I had an old demo with Straight Edge Kegger. Maybe the demo could give me an idea of their sound so I knew which speed. I found a tape, and the sound sucked so I still didnt know which speed. But Im pretty sure that 45 is correct, let me know if Im wrong.
The artwork gives me an impression of a quite unserious band. The fronts got a bunch of fists on it, each with a giant X. One hands holding a joint, one a beer and another a cigarette. Theres a story behind the name of the EP, Armed Robbery. I wont tell you exactly what, but lets just say that a certain bass player committed a certain crime, carrying a certain weapon, then he was charged with a certain crime. You have to buy the record to get the full story, muahahaha!
Well anyway. This band, hailing from the US, spits out 8 fast, almost grinding, chaotic hardcore songs. The keyword is definitely chaos. Screechy guitars, crazy drumming and smurf-screams from the vocalist. The description either sounds cool as hell, or really irritating, you tell me.
Once again you get an impression of an unserious band, and this time its the song titles. But I think the lyrics are quite serious actually. Some of the topics are about the media raping girls self esteem (as it says), violence in the society, and so on Not exactly well-written lyrics, but who said they have to be? I mean, its hardcore punk, dammit!
A very cool record, definitely something I enjoy. Waaay too short, though! You put the record on, sit down and pick up the insert, and then the first sides over and you have to get up again and flip it over.
