Splitter sure have made a rocket career over the last couple of years, if you can call it a career, but you know what I�m getting at. Their demo absolutely blew me away, as well as the debut MCD Vardags�ngest, but I was a bit skeptical towards their follow up, En sorglig historia. But that skepticism is way gone now.
These boys have really found their sound in a fierce-as-hell, aggressive and unbelievably tight grindcore, flirting with hardcore and metal. As I�d compare them to Nasum for their early material I really have no idea what to compare them to nowadays. I guess you can still hear the Nasum influences, soaked in brutal crustcore � la Skitsystem, battered in technical hardcore mangle � la older The Dillinger Escape Plan, dipped in angst-ridden hardcore � la From The Ashes and finally smeared with gory death metal � la Avulsed. Now that�s a lot of name-dropping, and it might sound really messy � but you have to trust me on this one; Splitter really manage to pull it off.
It�s bloody tight in the turns, and as the raging grinding suddenly goes to a halt and a more fast-paced crusty aura takes over, the mind-boggling mangle will soon hit you like a ton of bricks once more. You can never be sure of what you�ll hear next, as it�s really versatile and extremely skillfully written and executed. The wicked production lets all instruments take its full effect, and its clean and sharp, just as its dirty and raw. The fierce screaming and growling spews out pissed off bits about everyday life. And the artwork by the talented Mr. Krogh looks exactly what the music sounds like, he�s really managed to capture the essence of this aggressive bulldozer mangle machine that is Splitter. If these Swedes keep it up they�ll undoubtedly become one of the biggest names in the genre, and I�ll never doubt them again.
