Snutjävel - Punksvin! CDS
Genre: Punk rock Origin: Sweden Released: 2009 Website: Snutjävel Label: Räka Produktion Uploaded: 26.06.09 Ok, so I’m a bit confused here. The latest output from the prominent Snutjävel is a CDS, containing only one track. But they already released it earlier this year on the Ett liv i panik 7”. The song is a cover of the old Teddybears tune Punkrocker, but a rougher, harder version with updated lyrics in Swedish. To tell you the truth the song sucked the first time I heard it, and I still think it does. So yeah, I’m confused. A band hailing itself for not selling out, turning down an offer to star in a national TV commercial, this seems like a half-way to go. They’ve only released 7”s before, and have said they’ll never release a well-produced fullength CD. Ok, this isn’t a fullength, but still CD and with a well-known cover. To me it seems like an attempt to hit the bigger crowds, gain some more reputation and selling more merchandise. Maybe I’m mistaken, but that’s what it feels like. But on to the actual song, then. Contrary to their original material (which is harsh, aggressive, in-your-face hardcorepunk) this is much slower and rock n roll-fused. To be honest it’s quite boring. I don’t find the tune inspiring, not a teeny tiny bit. I don’t like rock in the first place, so that doesn’t help, but this is just not very good. Patrik Arve from Teddybears joins them on guestvocals, and his voice doesn’t fit at all and sounds really flat and lame. Apparently Micke from Asta Kask joins in on some backup vocals, but honestly I can’t hear when; can’t recognize his voice. They also have guests from both Sator and The Liptones as well, so they've definitely done their job bringing in some guest musicians for the release. But what’s the point… Punksvin doesn’t draw me in, it doesn’t get me singing along nor does it get my feet stomping along. Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m too harsh; but I really don’t get the point for releasing it. And to finish it off I must say the Swedish lyrics aren’t very interesting either. Tracklist: 01. Punksvin |
