Man, I wonder if Ive been in some form of cocoon, cause Ive never heard of Seeds of Sorrow. Apparently theyve released four albums (one of them on Nuclear Blast), done more than 160 shows and played on some of the biggest festivals around. But I havent got the slightest clue as to who these lads are. But for this promo theyve got three new members (which is quite a lot when there are only four guys in the band), and supposedly changed style a bit.
Well, the first thing I come to think of when listening to this, is the lousy sound quality. Its really crude, and offers no chance for the music to really make an impression. The second thing that comes to mind is the horrible sound surrounding the vocals. He can definitely growl, going from a more standard growl to gored-out grunts, but it just sounds horrible. My guess is the crappy production is to blame. Anyway, the music offers some technical death metal, still keeping the melody in mind. Theres some really wicked riffing going on, and some guitar leads are just golden. The drumming can go from raging, full on blasting, while other times slowing down and offering a more technical touch to it.
But this is really difficult to enjoy due to the oh-so-lousy production. It really takes effort to ignore the sound, and focus solely on the material. But if you manage to do so youll find a quite diverse set of songs, offering brutality, technicality and melody. Really golden is the ending track, Porn priest, which also houses a seriously great lyrical theme.
