It took me a while to really get the hang of this CD. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was, and to tell you the truth I’m still not sure exactly what’s bothering me. But I’ll try to get past it and give it a fair review anyway.
There’s no doubt about it; this is old school death metal with a chunk of blackness to go with it. But while mentioning a band like Possessed I might as well mention Impetigo, ‘cause it has that dirty, thrashing old school goregrind feel about it. Don’t let that last part fool you, though, ‘cause Sathanas keeps the tempo at a constant low, letting the riffing do the speaking instead of break-neck speed. Slick, razorsharp guitars and a pummelling bass lays the foundation and the vocals takes the command and shouts out phrases like “raise the devil sign” and “destroy the likes of god”. And speaking of vocals, they’re raw and dirty, but you’ll hear pretty much every blasphemic word streaming from your speakers.
Flesh for the Devil might not be the best suited party album around, but it’s definitely a great album for a night of candlelit satanic rituals and blood offerings. The dark, wicked, blasphemic tunes alone should be enough to bring forth hordes of fallen angles, raise the dead and invoke a few demonic possessions. Included is also the Slaughter cover Nocturnal hell for all you true old school freaks.
