Sakatat - Yolun sonu! CD-R
Genre: Grindcore Origin: Turkey Released: 2008 Website: Sakatat Label: - Uploaded: 15.01.09 Oh man, how I hated Sakatat’s Saldirmak üzereyiz demo. I mean, it was just so awfully bad I couldn’t stand it. So I certainly didn’t have any high hopes when they suddenly started releasing a bunch of splits. But I had to revise my fears after hearing some new tunes on internet. Yolun sonu! is a pro-cdr tour release, compiling some of their material on the split 7”s with Slaughter of the Innocents, Archagathus and Cut Your Throat, plus an exclusive track. Starting with the exclusive title track it’s obvious right from the start (if you’ve heard any of their early material) how massive of an improvement this is in all categories. The drummer can actually play, it doesn’t sound like the musicians recorded their part on completely different occasions and just tried to merge the music together afterwards, and one can actually hear what’s going on. So this time around I can actually judge Sakatat for what they are, and not for what I think I can hear in-between the horrid sound, distortion and noise. And so I realize it doesn’t sound anything like Agathocles (as is what I thought after the demo). This is some really old school grindcore in the vein of Napalm Death’s Scum era, and it’s truly effective. Going for that back to the basics, gruffy grinding with harsh growls and an in-your-face punk attitude. The short tracks constantly changing tempo is damn appealing, as it keeps a hardcore vibe to it, with the stop-and-go. Semih’s dark and raw growls changing in to gnarly high-pitch screams gets my body longing for a good moshpit. Think Rot, Terrorizer and even early Repulsion with a high dose of hardcorepunk attitude.
