The first time I listened to this CD I popped it into my computer, and I got so damn disturbed by the extremely lag that was going on. The music played for half a second, stopped, played, stopped (etc) for a while. Until I noticed that the promo had an autostart part that tried to open, and my computer just couldn’t handle playing the CD at the same time. So I need not be irritated, just close the bloody banner that popped up. Well, it contained some mp3s of other releases from the label, so it was still interesting.
Oath to Vanquish takes the basic of grindcore (meaning blistering speed, nail-through-the-eardrum string-work and heretical vocals) and adds the brutality of death metal’s heavy sound, and complete the mix with socio-political lyrics contemplating the world, seen through the eyes of a disturbed human. And with a history like Lebanon’s, I’d be surprised if they didn’t tackle the subject of mankind’s atrocity. I’d recommend this album to a fan of Dying Fetus anytime.
This is without a doubt the first time I’ve ever heard a Lebanese death metal band, or any Lebanese band what so ever, probably. But this just goes to show that you can find great bands anywhere!
