If I would’ve guessed what’d be coming next from Nödslakt (I’d first off all hoped for a split 7”) I would’ve said another demo. But I would never have guessed for a live DVD, albeit a self-produced DVD-R so I suppose it’s sort of a demo. But this is the band’s performance as part of an art exhibit by Gabo Camnitzer. I’ve never heard of the dude, but it’s a cool idea.
The audience consists of about 20 people or so, some who look like they were actually there for the art, but also people seem to fit right in with the chaotic punk. I’ve never seen Nödslakt live, but they look as to be giving their all. Their guitarist Frida is missing from the show, which leaves the sound a bit flat, but they make up for it with pure aggression and loads of energy. Linus does his best to keep the sound up with the bass, all while Anna screams her lungs out (of course covered in black duct tape) and Marcus beats the living daylight out his drum set. Something really fitting is the fact that they trash the place during the set, smashing mic stands and shit through walls. It’s a complete mess, but it suits the raging music. And as Anna invites the crowd to take part in trashing the place a few audience members takes the opportunity at hand to take out some aggression on the walls.
I’ve definitely heard worse sound quality for live filming, and this is one of the best when it comes to the DIY agenda. The light’s great and the sound’s clear (though not clean as a whistle, but what do you expect). A addition to your collection of Nödslakt’s other outputs, ‘cause there’s no excuse for not owning them all. I’m not sure what Gabo Camnitzer wanted to accomplish, but it’s certainly original. 25 minutes of chaos and punk.
