I don’t know anything about this band; I’ve never heard the band or even of the band. But this must be a re-release of an old recording. I mean, no matter how old school bands might try to sound, it just doesn’t come close to sounding like the real thing. And Lobotomia sure sounds like taken right out of the early/mid 80ies. So you know what I did? I looked the band up, and this actually is a re-release of an LP from 1987. So I wasn’t completely off base!
If you’re somewhat familiar with crustcore you know the classic sound of Brazilian bands, and if you mix that with the typical Scandinavian sound and a dose of Discharge then you’re right on the money for Lobotomia. Which means pounding crustcore with a true old school spirit. The lyrics are all in Portuguese, but with English translations. They take on most of the usual topics like war and police, but also the war between Israeli’s and Palestinian’s, which is not as common.
This re-release also contains six live bonus tracks, most of them to be found in their original versions on the CD too. But for me, who’s never heard the band before, the live tracks don’t really do anything to enhance the experience of the CD. But I suppose for a real fan it’s great to have that stuff on here too.
