Here we have the debut demo by the new Aussie grind sensation Kill A Celebrity. A catchy name, it is, but do they manage to live up to its edginess?
Blasting drums, razor guitars and distorted screams packaged in a dirty and raw sound. The only thing really bothering me about this demo is those latter parts; the sound is too rough to really make an impact and the distortion surrounding the vocals annoy the hell out of me. But other than that this is pretty cool grindcore in the vein of Pig Destroyer, mixed with Captain Cleanoff and Nasum. But the band also mention acts like Antigama, Splitter, Rotten Sound, Cephalic Carnage and Kill the Client as influences. While remaining within the grindcore genre youll easily find touches of death metal and crustcore as well. Im not really sure what to make out of the lyrics. None are included, and the tracktitles suggest socio-political topics (American Heroine for instance) as well as pure gore (Faecal Matter Makes Surprisingly Good Lubricant for instance), and itd surprise me if no tracks were to battle the celebrity topic. Besides the raging, blazing tunes clocking in between six seconds and almost two minutes they also offer us a couple of minutes of weird-ass blues towards the end. Im sure well hear a lot more from this band in the future. It seems that Australia just cant go wrong when it comes to grind.
