I have to admit that I was a bit sceptic towards the debut of Hymen Holocaust, but it was definitely a decent album. Now this, on the other hand, is a great album. Blood Feast shows that Morris Cliteater has matured a bit in his writing, and the music has more impact. Don’t get me wrong, this is still the sludge-driven, down-tuned goregrind á la Bile, The Day Everything Became Nothing, Last Days of Humanity, Cock and Ball Torture (etc), just taken to a whole new level.
With the ultra-heavy, headbanger friendly riffing set really slow it sounds almost like you’re playing a 45RPM vinyl on 33RPM instead. The pace almost sets me in a trance of apathic nodding, which is abruptly interrupted by the extremely pitchshifted, gurgling vocals. There are some faster parts embedded, of course, but most of the album is set in a rather slow pace. Lyrically I really like that Morris’ mixed in a bit of seriousness (Castrate Rapists) into his otherwise sexually oriented gore bits, which also includes a rather twisted ode to Britney Spears.
While this is still not quite up there with the great ones (the previously mentioned bands) it is cutting it real damn close this time! I wonder if he might have been inspired by Decomposing Serenity for the artwork, though…
