I know some of you might call me a wimp, or whatever, but in all honest I haven’t heard the old album Midnight murder mania by Frightmare. So this makes it my first experience with these stalk ‘n slash grinders. This is by far one of the top acts of the horror hive. Sure, the entire Razorback Records’ roster is pretty much top notch, but god damn if Frightmare aren’t competing with my other fav Splatterhouse.
Seriously rocking, thrashing, slashing riffs and solo’s, energetically encouraging your limbs to rock, stomp, mosh and thrash. Every riff is used with surgical precision, carefully planned and professionally executed. The drums are absolutely blasting and pulverizing your mind into a liquid pile, vibrating ‘cause of the bumping speakers. Vocal wise they’ve got it all – deep growling, regular growling, gore growling, piglet screaming, gore screaming etc. And you’ll have a seriously hard time finding something to complain about. And don’t even get me started on the lyrics! Horror and slasher flick’s manuscripts, basically, based on movies such as Don’t go in the house, The mutilator, Driller killer etc. Each telling the story of someone’s unfortunate events and brutal end.
There’s just nothing to complain about. The gore, grind, thrash and metal fans will get theirs with the brutal, arse-shredding, bone-breaking, ear-bleeding, mind-shattering, soul-evaporating tunes. And the horror fans will get theirs with the lyrics where they’ll encounter a couple of their favourite movie killers, like Jason and Leatherface. When summed up into a thick and heavy production this is all in all a perfect album.
