First time I listened to this album I really hoped that the opening track Brittle was just a bad intro, but as the CD progressed I realized that the case sadly wasn’t such. I’ve read a few reviews of this album, and overall the response from the media has been great, but I really don’t get it…
Sure, there are some fairly cool and rather intricate riff moments, and the tempo can switch back and forth without notice. But come on… The clean vocals is really weak, and it reminds me of Korn and other utterly worthless bands, and I’m definitely not convinced by the attempts to growl every now and then. And that leaves the semi-gnarly screaming, which is actually quite typical thrash screams, I suppose. The sound can vary from thrash metal to heavy metal and even some hardcore every now and then, or metalcore to be more precise. And I guess I can draw comparisons to Manowar as well as Black Sabbath sometimes. And what doesn’t help is the weak production, and it sometimes sounds like it’s been recorded in an amped garbage can.
I’m really struggling with this one, ‘cause there aren’t a whole lot of positive remarks I can make. However, if 80ies heavy/thrash metal is your thing, and you can overlook crappy sound and terrible vocals then by all means…
