In Sweden we have a bunch of new, or fairly new, and very promising death metal acts - Deviant, Obscene, Strangulation etc. And Degrade is definitely a name to be added to the list. 'Cause this is damn good!
You instantly know it's death metal, just by the band name and demo title, and it's not difficult to guess that it's the US-style we're talking about. They grind away damn good, and they throw in some bloody groovy, slow and heavy parts. Riffs are good, drumming is good, the growls are great and a bit gory. Only bad thing about this demo, really, is the sound quality (and it's really not that bad, just that it could be better). But other than that this kicks ass. I find myself constantly nodding along during the slow parts; those are really a selling point. Not that there's anything wrong with the rest, as the matter of fact I really like the grinding too. It's just that the slow parts are damn groovy! This might not be the most original music ever, but fuck originality - I like it!
Degrade got a new recording session coming up, and I'm really looking forward to see what they'll accomplish. Great and damn promising brutal death metal. Go to their website and download the entire demo and see for yourself.
