I reviewed the three track promo of this album about a month ago, and I’m not really sure what else to say. Sure, there are nine more songs, but I just think I’ve said all I can about this album already. Nonetheless I’ll give it another try.
The thing that first strikes me is that the album’s only 25 minutes long, and that’s too short for a fullength. Then again I’m not sure I’d be able to handle any more of this kind of music. I’m sick of all bands doing the same Dillinger Escape Plan rip off. But Charlie*Adler shouldn’t be brushed off as just another band like that, ‘cause this is too good. The screechy hardcore screaming is just as disturbing as it is cool. The vocalist changes his singing voice constantly, which gives it a really spastic touch. But the spasms don’t end there; there are tons of tempo changes and breakdowns, and it’s obvious that we’re dealing with talented musicians as they manage to keep it all together during the album. The bands I mentioned for the review of the promo were Converge, Pig Destroyer, Cephalic Carnage and of course Dillinger Escape Plan, and I can’t really say any other bands come to mind this time around. Maybe The Locust, but otherwise I think I did a pretty good job the last time (hehe).
This is spastic-as-hell and a complete nightmare for the conservative music teacher as it mixes hardcore, metal, ambience and just any other genre that could give it a cool touch. Everything flows together like a well-oiled machine (though it’d have to be built by a drug crazed scientist to fit the bill) and the result is a great album. Don’t really know what else to say. Charlie*Adler stands out from the crowd and shouldn’t be missed by fans of mathcore (as the genre’s apparently called). The only thing I can comment on is that I have no idea what a stilleto is, but I do how ever know what a stiletto is – proofreading, anyone?
