This is the first release from Revolution Records (a sublabel of Witching Hour Productions), where music knows no boundaries. This is the third album by a band that according to the promo sheet ‘plays a unique blend of musical styles’. I’m not sure I agree with that, and I’m not sure why they felt the need to start a sub-label releasing crap either.
Yeah I know that might sound harsh, but I’m gonna be brutally honest here; what the fuck is this crap? The opening track sounds scarily alike Korn, a completely worthless band in all manners. Some aspects of the music lean towards nu-metal, which sets off my gag reflexes. And for crying out loud the vocals sound like Marilyn Manson at times; eww! That is really my impression of this album. It combines all kinds of subpar metal variations, creating a horrible album to my ears. The only thing I find remotely interesting is the industrial flirtation akin to Psycore.
Maybe I might come off as afraid of progression, experimentation and whatnot. And maybe that’s true, I don’t know. But this doesn’t really feel like progression in my book, but regression. It sounds a bit like something I would’ve expected ten years ago, not today. But maybe I just don’t get Bright Ophidia. It’s like mixing all the above mentioned acts with White Zombie and Clawfinger, creating a progressive industrial nu-metalcore sound, which doesn’t work for me. Sure, there are some cool parts, like when they add jazzy blues in Brainscar. But the remainder of the album just sounds forced, not natural. Certainly not for me.
