Since My Minds Mine was put to rest I've heard very little of what became of Blood I Bleed, in fact I'm pretty sure I've only heard a split 7" of theirs some years ago. So when I got Gods out of monsters I was kind of excited, 'cause I figured it'd be some bad-ass music considering their past in My Minds Mine. But what surprised me was the reference to this as the band's debut fullength. Sure, it contains 23 songs, but when comprised into less than 17 minutes I wouldn't exactly call it a fullength, I'd call it an EP. I guess it doesn't really matter in the end; it's still a full-on elephant stampede of 'high octane speed thrash', as they, themselves, so niftily put it.
It gets off to a frantic start, and within a second Talk shit and spit blood is already on full speed. Closing after only 16 seconds they quickly move on to Supervillain bullseye, which hints of a minorly crusty riffing maneuver. Insensible we are is one of the few tunes that actually contain a longer section of detectable melody, leaving the first 16 seconds to dazzle with its magnificent bass playing before the mangle sets in. It's one of the purer hardcore tracks on here alongside Theorising utopia, which is whoppingly over a minute and a half long. And when The fists are formed sets in I get marvellous old school hardcore vibes. So at times they leave themselves enough room to display their talent for catchy riffs and not just blasting like crasy. But no matter the tempo you'll get nothing but high-pitched screams for vocals. Their vocalist Rosco sounds like a real mad man straight off the looney bin, screaming his lungs out 'cause he's missing his magic sock and he can't find his space hamster, and it sounds absolutely fantastic.
It is truly an unrelenting onslaught of grinding, from start to finish, but I wouldn't necessarily go as far as to label it pure grindcore. I'm not really sure how to label it, seeing as it's somewhat thrashy hardcore akin to crossover at times set at neckbreaking speed, whereas I suppose some people will refer to it as fastcore others will call it powerviolence. I don't know, but it's some fast and brutal shit, I can tell you that. The songs move seemlessly, going from one 30 second frenzy to another. There are only three tracks longer than one minute, one of them being an Enemy Soil cover, a track that differs quite a bit from their original material. It's quite difficult to spot a clear favourite amongst such pure mangle. Without paying close attention to what's really going on it's somewhat difficult to detect any significant variations in song writing. As the drumming's at full speed almost constantly it mostly varies when it comes down to the breaks, but the riffing is pretty versatile taking on thrash, crust, hardcore as well as classic grindcore notes. But in the end it all comes out as absolutely shredding blast - the Blood I Bleed way. Imagine a mix of Hellnation and Magrudergrind.
