I’m not too familiar with this band, but I think it was their debut. I’ve only heard a few clips, not even sure if I’ve even heard an entire song, on the web previous to receiving this one. What Betongbarn do is take that classic Norwegian hardcore sound of Kort Prosess, Alltid Jaget etc, and mixes in the melodic and agonized crustcore of Tragedy. Now this is cause for a majorly powerful record, filled with melodic and rememberable riffing that just creeps up on you for that angst attack.
The sound is heavy (of course, I did say this was classic Norwegian hardcore), so there’s a definite brutal and powerful ground to stand on. And the pillars are constructed of the slick riffs, striking drumming and chilling screams. The vocals are sort of suppressed and muffled in the background, which adds a really desperate and depressive edge. And to ease up on the brutality they have that Tragedy vibe, upgrading the power and adding very heartfelt melody to it.
A really nice debut. Unfortunately I think it’s the only thing they ever released before disbanding. So if you’re a fan of any of the previously said bands I definitely advice you to get a hold of a copy of this one, before it’s sold out.
