I was surprised to see that Alternative Tentacles decided to send me Akimbos new CD, seeing as how I didnt really like their previous output; the re-release of Harshing your mellow. But I guess its worth giving a try as theyve changed their sound quite a bit.
On Navigating the bronze they present a much more diverse style of music, not just frantic hardcore with tempo changes back and forth. Here we get a way more rock n roll-ish agenda, but even with some stoner influences shining through. Its diverse, its slick, but its still uninteresting. The rock n roll is definitely on a high level, with some rasping bass lines and slick riffing and the drummings diverse and out of the ordinary for hardcore. Everything reeks of rock.
Towards the end of Megatherium they present a stoner-ish tune (which leads on into Hiding in paper), with some seriously wicked vocals. And this I really like, but the rest of the album is very uninspiring and bland, but I guess Im just not a rock n roll type of hardcore guy. Akimbos just not for me. And I still think the artworks boring, but the productions definitely improved!
